Amity Children's Chorus:

An introduction to ensemble singing for children who love to sing! Children will learn songs from a variety of musical genres, including pop, folk, multicultural, and classical. Each session will begin with fun and developmentally appropriate vocal warm-ups. Solfege scales will be introduced, as well as the fundamentals of sight-singing and music notation. The course will culminate in a short concert at which the ensemble will showcase all the songs they have learned over the semester.

Teacher:  Jennifer Sciglibaglio

Jennifer has been making music her entire life and teaching music for over 25 years. She has worked with all ages of musicians with a wonderful variety of musical talents and dreams.  Currently she is a member of the voice faculty at Neighborhood Music School as well as a certified Music Together® teacher for Musical Folk. During the summer, Jennifer works with the Audubon Arts program teaching movement, improvisation and stage direction to the younger set of participants. In the past, she has worked with younger, as well as adult choirs as director, vocal coach and accompanist. Jennifer holds a BFA in Musical Theatre from SUNY Fredonia and a Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Syracuse University.

Director of the program: Rebecca Geary

Rebecca is a Connecticut certified music teacher (K-12) with 18 years of teaching experience, including seven years as the chorus and drama teacher at Amity Middle School in Bethany.  She holds a master’s degree in education, a dual-certificate in English (7-12), and is also a registered Music Together teacher.  Currently, she teaches English for Goodwin College in East Hartford as well as early childhood music classes for Musical Folk in Woodbridge.  In addition, she is the parent of three children, ages 9, 7 and 3, one of whom has intensive special needs.  While each of her children enriches her life every day, her autistic son in particular has taught her the powerful lesson that every child has beauty within, the potential to soar, and the ability to speak the universal language of music.
