Music Together® Mixed-Age Class (ages 0-5)

Music Together® Mixed-Age Classes (ages 0-5)

This is the essential Music Together® class, one that a child can attend from birth through age five and experience all nine song collections. This basic class follows the recommendations of child development researchers, grouping children of a variety of ages because this fosters natural, family-style learning. Younger children enjoy watching and imitating older ones; older children learn by leading younger ones; and adults are happy because the children in the family can go to class together. Each child participates at his or her own level in singing, moving, chanting, listening, watching, or exploring musical instruments. Any caregiver—parents, grandparents, nanny—can bring the children. The whole family is welcome for this important family music experience.

Quote from a piano teacher:

"The children who have taken Music Together classes, consistently in the earlier years have all the basics in place for readiness for piano lessons, and have a huge advantage over children who haven't mastered being able to sing in tune, or keep a beat yet which they tend to spend many of their first or second semseter in an instrument lesson trying to get familiar with" (Kristen Manning, Piano teacher).

Music Together® Babies Class (0-8 months)

Music Together® Babies Class (0-8 months)

Yes, you're newborn can start music now!  In either one of our Music Together® Mixed Age classes or our Babies clasess. Both classes are approrpiate for your newborn.

Have you noticed that your baby can "Sing/ or coo" notes to you already but can't speak yet?  Studies have shown that they can match pitch as early as 2 weeks old.  Try singing to them and listen for the sounds they make and the reaction on their faces.

Many parents think that they need to wait until their baby is a few months old, or even older to come to a music class.  Most don't realize that your baby comes into this world wired and ready to receive & make music and experience all the wonderful benefits, joy and bonding right from birth.

In fact, "babies who participate in music classes with their parents/caregiver in the first year of life, smile more, communicate better and show earlier and more sophisticated brain responses to music" (Study from McMaster University).  Not to mention all the other benefits by starting music as a baby.  They develop so many skills; cognitive, social, emotional growth, language developement, fine motor skiils as they embark on their lifelong musical journey.  This is such a wonderful activitity to do with your baby to start to stimulate their brains and bodies and share the joy of music making and bonding with them

Your baby can join one of our many Music Together® "Mixed Age classes" at any time - and we have so many class times and days to choose from on our schedule (aprox 35 to choose from each semester between all of our locations).

However, on occasion we are fortunate enough to be able to find a group of babies between the ages of 0-9 that can take our Babies class at the *same day and time*.  This is not always easy for us to make happen because of babies naps, parent's schedules etc but if we have enough that can do the same day/time we will hold a babies class (Minimum of 6 babies for this class).  If you are interested in this class and know some friends who would like to join us please email us at [email protected]

In the "Babies class" grownups will get to enjoy a group of other newborns with their caregivers making music together, learning beautiful songs & movements to sing to their babies in class and at home enjoying music all week long.  They create a special bond in our classes with their baby and with all the other families in our classes.  We sing, dance and play with instruments such as eggs, scarves, jingle bells, parachutes, sticks and resonator bells.  Each family will receive a CD and a beautifully illustrated accompanying music book, as well as access to a website for more music activities and digital copies of the music.  We have 9 collections of music so our program will extend over your babies first 3 years of life.  The Music Together program is one of the few programs that offer such a vast curriculum of age appropriate music and activities and we have over 30 years of research and offering this program to 1000s of famlies all over the world.

Rhythm Kids® ® (ages 4-8)

Rhythm Kids® ®(ages 4-8)

Rhythm Kids® ® is a wonderful and exciting new class added to the Musical Folk curriculum. It is bursting with fun and playful eduction and will bridge the gap for children from our Mixed-age classes to get them ready for formalized instrument lessons when they are a little older. Some children start instruments around 6 years old.

This class is geared for children 4 to 8 years old. Each week we drum, sing, dance, play rhythm instruments, and begin to play music-based games. Rhythm Kids® ® guides children toward developmentally appropriate music and movement activities, where they can begin to take charge, lead others, and be musically creative.

Ukulele (Beginners) 6 and up

Play By Color Ukulele lessons (Beginner's) Ages 6 and older

Our Ukulele lessons are fun and such an easy instrument to learn. It is perfect for children who love to sing and want to accompany themselves on an instrument. Within our first lesson we will have your child playing chords and singing along to songs.  Each week we build on adding new chords and adding to their repetoire of fun, well-known folk songs. At the end of the semester, we hold a concert for family and friends, which is a wonderful opportunity for them to show off the skills learned in class and a great way to build confidence for singing in public.
